- 2-3/4 cup flour
- 2-1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2/3 cup shortening
- 3 eggs
- 2-1/2 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 pkg. chocolate chips
- 1 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
Directions

1In a saucepan, melt the shortening.

2When cooled slightly, add eggs and beat well.

3Add the brown sugar, mixing well to breakup lumps.

4Pour into a large bowl; set aside.

5Sift together the dry ingredients.

6Slowly add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, using an electric mixer.

7While blending, add vanilla.

8Fold in the chocolate chips and nuts.

9Pour into a greased 9x11-inch pan and bake for 35 minutes in a 350F oven.
