  • 2/3 c. shortening
  • 1 box brown sugar (2 1/4 c.)
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 3/4 c. sifted flour
  • 2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. chopped nuts (optional)
  • 1 (12 oz.) pkg. chocolate chips

Directions

    Cream shortening and sugar; add eggs one at a time, beating well after each.

    Sift dry ingredients together and add.

    Add nuts and chocolate chips.

    Bake at 350° for 25 to 30 minutes in a pan, 10 1/4 x 15 1/4-inch or bake for 35 minutes in a 9 x 13-inch pan. The smaller pan will make thicker bars.
