  • 1 c. corn meal
  • 1 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1/4 c. bacon fat or shortening
  • 1 1/2 c. buttermilk
  • 2 eggs

Directions

    Mix all ingredients.

    Beat vigorously 30 seconds.

    Pour into greased round layer pan or square 8 x 8 x 2-inch pan.

    Bake at 450° until golden brown, 25 to 30 minutes.

    Serve warm.

    Or make fried corn bread.

    Drop by ladleful into hot grease in frying pan.

    Turn as you would a pancake.
