  • 1 c. self-rising flour
  • 2/3 c. cornmeal
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. vegetable oil
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 1 (16 oz.) pkg. frankfurters
  • vegetable oil
  • mustard and catsup (optional)

Directions

    Combine first 3 ingredients in a large bowl.

    Combine 2 tablespoons oil, egg and buttermilk; stir into flour mixture, mixing well.

    Cut each frankfurter into 5 pieces.

    Dip each piece into batter, coating completely (use wooden picks to aid in dipping).

    Pour oil to depth of 3 to 4 inches into a Dutch oven; heat to 375°.

    Fry pieces until golden, turning once; drain on paper towels.
