  • 3/4 cup (175 ml) sugar
  • 2 tbsp (30 ml) cornstarch
  • 1/4 tsp (1 ml) salt
  • 2 cups (475 ml) milk
  • 2 slightly beaten egg yolks or 1 well-beaten egg
  • 2 tbsp (30 ml) butter
  • 1 tsp (5 ml) vanilla

Directions

    In saucepan, blend sugar, cornstarch and salt.

    Add milk.

    Cook and stir over medium heat until thick and bubbly.

    Remove from heat.

    Stir a small amount into egg.

    Stirring, slowly add egg mixture to pan.

    Cook and stir 2 more minutes.

    Remove from heat.

    Add butter and vanilla.
