  • 1 c. plain flour
  • 1 tsp. brown sugar
  • 1/4 c. Crisco oil
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 1/2 c. buttermilk
  • 3/4 tsp. soda

    Sift the flour, then measure 1 cup.

    Sift together with soda, salt and baking powder.

    Mix with cornmeal.

    Combine oil, sugar and eggs.

    Add buttermilk and flour mixture.

    Bake in a well-greased iron frying pan 25 to 30 minutes at 420°.
