- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 2-3 Tbsp. sugar (optional)
- 1 egg slightly beaten
- 1 c. buttermilk
Directions

1Preheat oven 400°.

2Cover bottom of 8 x 2-inch iron skillet with oil.

3Set on stove burner and get smoking hot.

4Put dry ingredients into a small bowl.

5Add egg and oil, stir well; pour into hot skillet with oil.

6Place in oven.

7Bake 15 minutes.

8No real southerner would use sugar in cornbread but some prefer it.
