Ingredients

  • 1 lb. dry pinto beans
  • 2 to 3 qt. water
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 or 2 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 1 Tbsp. chili powder (Grandma's, Gebhardt's)
  • 2 pieces lean slab bacon, chopped or left whole
  • 1 (4 oz.) can Ortega diced chilies
  • salt to taste
  • 1 small can refried beans

    liquid the next morning.

    Add water and simmer about 1 hour.

    Add all the rest, except the salt
