- 2 to 3 qt. water
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 or 2 cloves garlic, crushed
- 1 Tbsp. chili powder (Grandma's, Gebhardt's)
- 2 pieces lean slab bacon, chopped or left whole
- 1 (4 oz.) can Ortega diced chilies
- salt to taste
- 1 small can refried beans
