- 2 (4) c. flour, unsifted
- 1 (2) c. sugar
- 1 1/2 (3) tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 (1) tsp. soda
- 1 (2) tsp. salt
- 2 (4) Tbsp. shortening and enough boiling water to make 3/4 c. (1 1/2 c.)
- 1 (2) egg(s), well beaten
- 1 (2) c. chopped pecans
- 1 (2) c. raw cranberries, halved
- juice and grated rind of 1 (2) orange(s)
Directions

1Sift together flour, sugar, baking powder, soda and salt.

2Mix juice and grated rind, shortening, water and egg.

3Blend liquid into dry ingredients until flour is dampened.

4Add nuts and cranberries.

5Pour into greased loaf pan.

6Push into corners and leave center hollow.

7Let stand 20 minutes before baking.

8Bake at 350° for 60 to 70 minutes.

9Cool thoroughly before slicing.
