Ingredients
- 2 c. sifted flour
- 1 c. sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp. sugar
- 1/2 tsp. soda
- 1 tsp. salt
- juice and grated rind of 1 orange
- 2 Tbsp. melted butter
- boiling water
- 1 egg, well beaten
- 1/2 c. chopped nuts
- 1 1/2 c. cranberries, coarsely chopped
Directions

1Sift together flour, sugar, baking powder, soda and salt. Pour orange juice into measuring cup.

2Add orange rind, melted shortening and enough boiling water to make 3/4 cup.

3Combine orange juice mixture and well beaten egg.

4Stir liquid mix into dry ingredients (only until dry ingredients are dampened).

5Fold in chopped cranberries and chopped nuts.

6Pour into greased pan (9 x 5 x 13-inch).

7Push batter to sides and corners.

8Let stand 20 minutes before baking.

9Bake 50 to 60 minutes at 350°.
