- 1/2 c. sugar
- 4 Tbsp. flour
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 2 c. milk
- 2 egg yolks, slightly beaten
- 2 Tbsp. butter
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 (9-inch) baked pie shell
Directions

1Mix dry ingredients with a small amount of the milk.

2Add rest of the milk.

3Cook over boiling water (in a double boiler), stirring until thick.

4Cover; cook for 15 minutes longer, stirring occasionally.

5Add a small amount of the hot mixture to the egg yolks.

6Pour back and cook a few minutes longer.

7Add butter and vanilla.

8Pour filling into baked shell.

9Cool slightly; cover with meringue.
