- 1 c. strong boiling coffee
- 2 1/4 sq. unsweetened chocolate
- 2 5/8 c. cake flour
- 2 c. sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1 1/2 tsp. soda
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 1/8 tsp. cloves
- 1/2 c. plus 1 Tbsp. shortening
- 3/4 c. sour milk
- 3/4 tsp. vanilla
- 1/2 to 3/4 c. unbeaten eggs
Directions

1Pour coffee over chocolate.

2Cool.

3Sift together flour, sugar, baking powder, soda, salt and cloves.

4Add shortening, cooled chocolate mixture, milk and vanilla.

5Beat two minutes with electric mixer on medium speed.

6Add eggs and beat two more minutes.

7Pour into two 9-inch layer pans.

8Bake at 350° for 30 to 35 minutes.

9Frost with White Mountain Icing.
