Ingredients

  • 2 eggs
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 2 c. milk
  • 2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 4 or 5 Tbsp. melted shortening
  • 6 tsp. baking powder
  • 2 tsp. nutmeg (or more)
  • 7 c. flour (approximately)

    Beat eggs and sugar.

    Add shortening and milk.

    Sift dry ingredients and add enough to make a stiff dough.

    Chill about 45 minutes.

    Roll dough about 1/2-inch thick.

    Cut in strips about 3/4 x 2-inches.

    Twist and fry or roll dough with your hands in the shape of a log and fry in deep fat or oil at 360° until light brown.

    Drain on paper towels.

    If desired, shake in bag of confectioners sugar.
