  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1 c. shortening
  • 1 c. Brer Rabbit baking molasses
  • 2 c. hot tap water
  • 2 tsp. baking soda

Directions

    Mix flour, sugar and shortening together like pie crumbs.

    Save 1 cup and set aside for top of cake.

    Add molasses and mix well. Stir the baking soda into the hot water.

    Pour over mixture and mix well.

    Divided into 2 layer cake pans or one 9 x 13 baking dish. Bake at 350° for 40 to 45 minutes.
