- 3 gal. sliced cucumbers
- 2 gal. water
- 4 c. plain salt
- 4 oz. alum
- 1 gal. white vinegar
- 1 Tbsp. turmeric
- 10 lb. sugar
- pickling spice
Directions

1Cover sliced cucumbers with water and salt.

2Let stand 7 days. Drain and wash cucumbers.

3Cover again with water and alum.

4Let stand 2 nights.

5Drain well.

6Cover with vinegar and turmeric. Let stand 1 night.

7Drain well.

8Cover with sugar, layer of cucumbers and layer of sugar mixed with small amount of pickling spice.

9Put in jars.

10Sugar preserves them.
