Cucumber Pickles

Ingredients

  • 5 lb. sliced cucumbers
  • 1 (.4 oz.) bottle Lily Lime (calcium hydroxide; get at the drugstore)
  • 3 lb. sugar
  • 1 qt. vinegar
  • 1 Tbsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. mixed spices or pickle seasoning
  • 1 gal. cold water

Directions

    Add cucumbers to water with lime mixed in.

    Soak for 24 hours. Rinse.

    Soak for 3 hours in clear water; drain.

    Mix sugar, vinegar, salt and spices and add cucumbers.

    Leave overnight. Drain out syrup and heat syrup to a boil, then add cucumbers and cook for 45 minutes.

    Put in jars and seal.

    (Add a little green food coloring to make them look pretty.)
