Ingredients

  • 6 pkg. dry yeast
  • 12 lb. flour
  • 1 lb. butter
  • 2 1/2 lb. lard
  • 6 c. sugar
  • 3 Tbsp. salt
  • 5 lb. raisins
  • 4 lb. currants
  • 1/2 lb. citron, chopped
  • 2 oz. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. allspice
  • 1 box nutmeg
  • 1/2 bottle Karo

    Clean, wash and dry raisins and currants.

    Sift flour.

    Mix in sugar, lard, butter and then add spices and fruit.

    Mix all together.

    Mix yeast in 2 cups of warm water; stir into flour. Measure 2 quarts hot water and add 1/2 bottle Karo.

    Stir and mix a little at a time.

    Knead together.

    Let rise until double its size, covered in a warm pan.
