Dark Fruit Cake

Ingredients

  • 1/3 lb. butter
  • 6 eggs
  • 2 1/3 c. sugar
  • 4 c. flour
  • 1 lb. raisins (I use golden)
  • 1 qt. pecans
  • 1/2 lb. dates, chopped
  • 1/2 lb. candied cherries
  • 1 c. molasses
  • 1/2 c. cream
  • 1/2 c. orange juice
  • dash of nutmeg

    Cream butter and sugar.

    Add beaten eggs and mix well.

    Add 3 cups flour and liquids.

    Blend thoroughly.

    Add 1 cup flour to nuts and fruit.

    Coat well and add to batter.

    Line a large tube pan with paper and grease well.

    Pack cake batter into pan.

    Place in water bath canner and steam for 1 1/2 hours.

    Remove from canner and put in 320° oven for 30 minutes or until done.
