- 1 c. sugar
- 1 c. flour
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 3 eggs, separated
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 lb. dates, stoned and cut
- 1/2 c. nuts, cut
- 1 Tbsp. milk
- 1/2 tsp. salt
Directions

1Sift dry ingredients together.

2Beat yolks until thick and lemon colored.

3Add vanilla.

4Add dry ingredients to egg yolks and mix thoroughly.

5Fold in stiffly beaten whites.

6Milk may be added; this facilitates mixing.

7Spread 1/2-inch thick in a greased and floured baking pan, 9 x 9-inch.

8Bake in a slow to moderate oven (325°) for 25 minutes.

9When cold, cut in strips and roll in powdered sugar.

10Makes 30 bars, 3 x 3/4 x 3/4-inch.
