- 1 heaping Tbsp. butter
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- boiling water
- 1 c. chopped dates
- 1/2 c. chopped nuts
- 1 c. sugar
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 3/4 c. all-purpose flour
- 1 Tbsp. vanilla
- 1/2 tsp. salt
Directions

1Preheat oven to 325°.

2Put butter and baking soda into a 1-cup measuring cup.

3Fill up to one cup with boiling water.

4In a bowl, place dates and nuts and pour boiling water over them.

5Cool.

6Mix in sugar, egg yolk, flour, vanilla and salt.

7Pour into greased 9 x 5-inch loaf pan.

8Bake for 1 hour.

9Slice and serve with butter and cream cheese.
