  • 3 Tbsp. + 1 tsp. firmly packed light or dark brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. ground ginger
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 c. skim buttermilk
  • 1/4 c. margarine, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 12 fresh dates, pitted and chopped
