- 2 1/4 c. chopped walnuts
- 3 lb. pitted dates, chopped
- 4 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. butter or oleo
- 6 eggs, beaten
- 3 c. sugar
- 1 Tbsp. vanilla
- 4 1/2 c. flour
Directions

1Put the first 5 ingredients in large bowl, then pour 2 1/4 cups boiling water over and let stand 15 minutes while mixing the remaining ingredients.

2Mix with first mixture.

3Have 3 (3 x 9 x 5-inch) loaf pans ready, greased and lined with waxed paper.

4Bake 1 hour and 15 minutes at 350°.

5Peel off waxed paper at once.

6Let cool, then store in freezer.

7Best made 2 months before use. Avoid holiday rush!
