  • 1 c. boiling water
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 c. raisins
  • 1 c. chopped dates
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1 c. chopped walnuts

Directions

    Add water and soda to raisins and dates in bowl; let cool. In second bowl, beat eggs, sugar and vanilla until well blended. Stir in flour alternately with cooled fruit mixture just until blended.

    Stir in nuts.

    Turn into 2 well-greased loaf pans.

    Bake in preheated 325° oven for 60 to 70 minutes.

    Cool in pan on rack for 15 minutes.

    Remove from pan and cool completely.

    Wrap airtight and store overnight before serving.

    Yields 2 loaves, about 18 thin slices each.
