- 1 cup chopped dates
- 1 cup raisins
- 1 cup chopped walnuts
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 12 cups boiling water
- 14 cup butter
- 1 14 cups sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 3 12 cups flour, sifted
Directions

1Combine dates, raisins and walnuts.

2Sprinkle baking soda over, then pour in boiling water.

3Let stand until cooled to room temperature.

4Preheat oven to 350F Grease and flour 2 loaf pans.

5Cream butter and sugar with electric mixer (stand or handheld).

6Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.

7Add vanilla and softened fruit (with any remaining water).

8Fold in flour by hand.

9Divide batter between prepared loaf pans.

10Bake 45-60 minutes until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.

11Cool in pans 10 minutes, then remove to a rack to cool completely.
