  • 1 lb. chopped dates
  • 2 tsp. soda
  • 2 c. hot water
  • 1/4 lb. butter
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 4 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. nuts
  • softened cream cheese

Directions

    Mix the first 3 ingredients and let stand.

    Cream the butter, sugar and eggs.

    Add flour, vanilla and salt.

    Alternate with date mixture.

    Fold in nuts.

    Pour into 7 ungreased juice cans and bake for one hour at 325°.

    Slice very thin and spread with softened cream cheese.
