- 1 1/2 c. dates, stoned
- 1 1/2 c. boiling water
- 2 Tbsp. shortening
- 1 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 egg
- 2 3/4 c. pastry flour
- 1 tsp. soda
- 1 tsp. cream of tartar
- 1 c. walnut meats
- 1 tsp. vanilla
Directions

1Cut dates in quarters and pour boiling water over them.

2Add shortening, sugar and salt.

3When cool, add beaten egg, flour sifted with soda and cream of tartar, nuts and vanilla.

4Beat well.

5Pour into greased and floured bread pan.

6Bake at 350° for 1 1/4 hours.

7Watch oven; do not get too hot.
