- 2 c. chopped dates
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 Tbsp. butter
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 egg
- 1 c. boiling water
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 c. sugar
- 1/2 c. chopped pecans
- 1 1/2 c. bread flour, sifted twice
- 1/2 tsp. baking powder
Directions

1Sprinkle soda over dates; add boiling water.

2Let stand until cool.

3Beat egg with salt, sugar, butter, nuts and vanilla; then mix well with the dates and water.

4To the flour, add baking powder and sift together.

5Add to first mixture and blend thoroughly.

6Turn batter into a generously greased loaf pan, and bake in a moderate oven as directed.

850 to 55 minutes in 350° oven.
