  • 1 (8 oz.) pkg. dates
  • 1 1/4 c. boiling water
  • 1 1/2 c. brown sugar
  • 6 Tbsp. margarine
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 3/4 c. chopped walnuts
  • 2 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 1/4 c. flour

Directions

    Cut dates into small pieces in medium size bowl; pour boiling water over and stir in sugar and margarine.

    Cool to room temperature.

    Stir in beaten egg and walnuts.

    Mix flour, soda and salt.

    Stir gradually into date mixture just until blended.

    Pour into greased loaf pan, 9 x 15 x 13-inch.

    Let stand for 15 minutes.

    Bake at 350° for 1 hour.
