- 1 lb. pitted dates, chopped
- 1 egg
- 1 3/4 c. flour
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- pinch of salt
- 1 c. chopped nuts
- 1 c. granulated sugar
- 1 Tbsp. butter
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 c. boiling water
- cherry halves (optional)
- extra nuts (optional)
Directions

1Scald dates, baking soda and butter with the cup of boiling water.

2When cool, add all other ingredients.

3Bake in moderate oven (350°) for 45 to 55 minutes (use an angel food cake pan or Bundt pan).

4Cool upside-down and when removed from pan, glaze with powdered sugar/water or just sprinkle with powdered sugar. Decorate with cherry halves and nuts.
