Ingredients
- 1 c. flour
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1 Tbsp. shortening
- 6 Tbsp. cold water
- shortening for deep frying
- coarse salt
Directions

1Combine flour and plain salt in a bowl.

2Cut in shortening. Add water, 1 tablespoon at a time.

3Mix until dry ingredients are moistened and dough can be gathered into a ball.

4Knead gently a few times.

5Pinch off pieces of dough and shape into 1-inch balls. Roll each ball between hands to form a 10-inch rope. Form each rope into a pretzel shape.

6Set on waxed paper.

7Heat shortening to 365°.

8Fry 3 pretzels at a time for 3 minutes or until brown. Drain on paper towels and sprinkle with coarse salt.
