Ingredients

  • 1 qt. vinegar
  • 3 qt. water
  • 1 c. salt (canning)
  • 1 head dill or tsp. dill seed to each qt.
  • 1 clove garlic to each qt.
  • 1 pod red pepper to each qt. (optional)
  • 1/8 tsp. alum or pinch with fingers to each qt.
  • cucumbers
  • grape leaves

Directions

    Soak cucumbers overnight in cold water in crock.

    Pack in jars and add dill, garlic, pepper and alum to each jar.

    Cover with grape leaves.

    Boil vinegar, water and salt.

    Pour over cucumbers and seal tight.

    Set in cool place.
