Ingredients

  • cucumbers, cut lengthwise
  • buttons of garlic
  • dill seed
  • alum
  • 1 qt. vinegar
  • 2 qt. water
  • 1 c. salt

Directions

    Place cukes in quart jars.

    Add 3 or 4 buttons of garlic to each jar, 1 teaspoon dill seed and 1/4 teaspoon alum.

    Boil the vinegar, water and salt together.

    Pour vinegar mixture over cukes.

    Seal; let stand 6 weeks.

    Makes 6 quarts.
