Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 c. sugar
  • 3/4 c. white corn syrup
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. water
  • 2 egg whites, stiffly beaten
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Directions

    Combine the first 4 ingredients. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until sugar melts and mixture boils.

    Continue cooking, without stirring, until small amount of syrup forms hard ball in cold water.

    Pour slowly over the stiffly beaten egg whites.

    Add the vanilla, beating until candy holds shape when dropped from spoon.

    Pour into buttered pan and cut in squares. (I drop mine by spoonfuls on buttered surface; it's prettier.)
