Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. Karo white syrup
  • 2 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 c. water
  • 2 egg whites
  • 1 tsp. vanilla flavoring
  • 1 c. chopped nuts (pecan or walnut)

Directions

    Combine first 4 ingredients in saucepan.

    Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until sugar is dissolved.

    Cook without stirring to form ball stage.

    Just before syrup reaches ball stage, beat egg white until stiff, not dry.

    Pour about 1/2 of the syrup slowly over egg whites, beating constantly.

    Cook remainder of syrup to soft ball stage or until small amount of syrup forms a hard ball when dropped into cold water.

    Add syrup slowly to mixture.

    Continue beating until mixture stiffens.

    Add vanilla and nuts.

    Drop from teaspoon on wax paper.
