- 1 c. butter, softened
- 2 c. firmly packed light brown sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 1/2 c. unsifted unbleached white flour
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. salt
- 2 c. uncooked oats
Directions

1Beat butter and sugar until fluffy and smooth.

2Add eggs and vanilla and beat until well blended.

3Mix flour, soda and salt together, then stir into mixture.

4Add oats.

5Stir until well mixed.

6Spread into ungreased baking pan.

7Add filling.

8Bake in moderate oven (350°) for 25 minutes, until top is lightly browned and springs back when touched with fingertip.

9While bars bake, prepare frosting.

10As soon as bars come from oven, drizzle or spread frosting over surface.

11Cool to room temperature before cutting.
