Ingredients

  • 1 c. butter, softened
  • 2 c. firmly packed light brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 1/2 c. unsifted unbleached white flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 c. uncooked oats

Directions

    Beat butter and sugar until fluffy and smooth.

    Add eggs and vanilla and beat until well blended.

    Mix flour, soda and salt together, then stir into mixture.

    Add oats.

    Stir until well mixed.

    Spread into ungreased baking pan.

    Add filling.

    Bake in moderate oven (350°) for 25 minutes, until top is lightly browned and springs back when touched with fingertip.

    While bars bake, prepare frosting.

    As soon as bars come from oven, drizzle or spread frosting over surface.

    Cool to room temperature before cutting.
