- 1 c. warm water (not hot; 110~ to 115~)
- 1 pkg. active dry yeast
- 2 Tbsp. sugar
- 2 1/4 c. Gold Medal flour
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 egg
- 2 Tbsp. soft shortening
Directions

1In bowl dissolve yeast in water.

2Measure flour by dip-level-pour method or by sifting.

3Stir sugar, half of flour and salt into yeast.

4Beat with spoon until smooth.

5Add egg and shortening.

6Beat in rest of flour until smooth.

7Scrape sides of bowl and cover with cloth.

8Let rise in warm place (85°) until double, about 30 minutes.
