- 2 pkg. dry yeast
- 1/4 c. warm water
- 1 1/2 c. lukewarm milk, scalded then cooled
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 tsp. salt
- 2 eggs
- 1/3 c. shortening
- 5 c. all-purpose flour
- vegetable oil (for frying)
Directions

1Dissolve yeast in warm water in 2 1/2-quart bowl.

2Add milk, 1/2 cup sugar, the salt, eggs, shortening and 2 cups of the flour. Beat on low speed for 30 seconds, then beat for 2 minutes on medium speed, scraping sides of bowl.

3Stir in remaining flour until smooth.

4Cover; let rise in warm place until double (50 to 60 minutes).

5Turn dough onto floured surface.

6Roll dough until it is 1/2-inch thick.

7Cut with floured doughnut cutter.

8Cover; let rise 30 to 40 minutes.

9Heat vegetable oil in deep fryer. Drop doughnuts in hot oil.

10When they rise to surface, turn and cook on other side.
