Down South Barbecue Twists

  • 2 lb. raw gluten
  • 1/3 c. nutritional yeast
  • 1 c. barbecue sauce
  • 1/2 c. peanut butter or tahini (sesame seed paste)
  • 2 Tbsp. paprika
  • 2 Tbsp. garlic powder
  • 1 large chopped onion
  • 1/2 c. hot oil

Directions

    In a large bowl, add peanut butter, yeast, garlic powder and paprika to raw gluten.

    Mix well by pulling and stretching.

    Saute onions in oil.

    Add onions and hot oil to seasoned gluten.

    (Hot oil breaks the gluten down and helps seasonings to penetrate.) Continue to mix gluten well by pulling and stretching until consistency is stringy, but doesn't tear apart.

    Pull off small pieces of gluten and stretch and twist pieces into shapes similar to 6 to 8-inch bread sticks.
