- 1 c. butter, softened
- 2 1/4 c. sugar
- 4 eggs
- 4 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg
- 1/4 c. buttermilk
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
Directions

1Cream butter in a large bowl.

2Gradually add sugar, beating well at medium speed of an electric mixer.

3Add eggs, beating well.

4Combine flour, baking powder, soda and nutmeg.

5Add flour mixture to creamed mixture, alternately with buttermilk, mixing well.

6Stir in vanilla.

7Drop dough by tablespoonfuls onto greased cookie sheets.

8Bake at 375° for 8 to 10 minutes or until Tea Cakes are lightly browned.

9Cool on wire racks.

10Yields 6 dozen.
