Ingredients

  • Vegetable oil for deep frying
  • 2-1/2 cup flour
  • 1 dash cinnamon
  • 1 dash nutmeg
  • 1-1/4 cup sweet cider
  • flat beer
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 6 tart apples, cored, peeled, each cut into 8 wedges
  • Icing sugar
  • Lemon quarters

Directions

    Preheat deep fryer to 325F.

    Mix flour, cinnamon and nutmeg.

    Combine with cider or beer and salt to make a smooth batter.

    Let batter sit for 15 minutes at room temperature.

    Dip apple wedges in batter and fry, a few at a time, until light golden.

    Drain fritters on paper towels in a warm oven, sprinkle with sugar and remove to a warmed dish.

    Serve with lemon quarters.
