  • 1 c. brown or white sugar
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 6 Tbsp. cocoa, melted with 1 Tbsp. butter
  • 1/2 tsp. soda
  • 1/2 c. sour milk, mix soda and milk together
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 2/3 c. flour
  • 1/2 c. nuts

Directions

    Cream sugar and shortening.

    Add egg, cocoa mixture and sour milk with soda.

    Add vanilla and salt.

    Add flour last, then nuts. Drop on greased baking sheet and bake at 350° for 12 to 15 minutes.

    Ice with powdered sugar icing while hot.

    Not a good keeper.

    Best eaten soon.

    Make sour milk by adding vinegar to sweet milk.
