Ingredients

  • 3/4 c. shortening
  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • 1 egg, unbeaten
  • 1/4 c. molasses
  • 2 c. sifted flour
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. each ginger, cinnamon and ground cloves
  • granulated sugar

Directions

    Combine shortening and sugars. Add egg.

    Beat until fluffy. Add molasses and beat well. Sift dry ingredients together and add. Chill dough. Roll into 1-inch balls and roll in granulated sugar. Place 2-inches apart on a lightly greased baking sheet. Bake at 350° for 12 to 15 minutes.
