- 1 qt. milk
- 6 eggs
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 c. whipping cream, whipped
- nutmeg
Directions

1Heat milk in large saucepan until hot but not boiling.

2While milk is heating, beat together eggs and salt in a large bowl, gradually adding the sugar.

3Gradually stir the hot milk into the egg mixture; transfer back to the saucepan and cook on medium-low heat, stirring constantly with a whisk, until the mixture has thickened or coats the spoon.

4(Thermometer should register 160°.) Stir in vanilla, cool quickly by setting pan in bowl of ice cold water and stirring for about 10 minutes.

5Cover and refrigerate until thoroughly chilled.
