Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. cocoa
  • 1 c. hot water
  • 2 c. flour
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 1/2 c. Wesson oil
  • 2 eggs, unbeaten
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Directions

    Cook the 1/2 cup cocoa and hot water until thick and cool. Sift the flour, sugar, salt and baking soda together into a large mixing bowl.

    Mix the buttermilk, oil and eggs in a small bowl, then pour into dry ingredients. Add the vanilla and cocoa mixture. Stir with a large whisk.

    Pour into a 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan or two 8 x 8 x 2-inch pans. Bake at 325° for 40 minutes. Freezes well.
