Ingredients
- 3 pkg. dry yeast or 1 cake dry or compressed yeast
- 1/2 c. warm water
- 1/2 tsp. sugar
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2 c. warm water
- 8 c. flour
Directions

1Dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup warm water and 1/2 teaspoon sugar for 45 minutes.

2Blend shortening with 1/2 cup sugar.

3Add beaten egg with mixer until light.

4Add salt, warm water and dissolved yeast. Mix well.

5Add enough sifted flour to make a stiff dough.

6Turn out on board and knead until elastic to the touch, using up the rest of the flour.

7(Perhaps a little more flour may be needed if dough feels sticky.)

8Put the dough in a greased bowl in a warm place to double its bulk.

9The dough may be kneaded down and shaped into rolls and baked or put in refrigerator for future use.
