  • 1 c. butter
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 3 c. all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. milk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

    Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

    Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.

    Sift together flour, baking powder and salt.

    Add to creamed mixture alternately with milk, blending well after each addition.

    Blend in flavoring. Spoon batter into 4 or 5 greased and floured 9-inch cake pans. Bake at 350° for 20 minutes.

    Cool completely and spread coconut icing between layers.
