  • 1 c. shortening
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 5 eggs
  • 1 c. plain flour
  • 1 c. self-rising flour
  • 1 c. milk
  • 2 tsp. vanilla

    Cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy.

    Add eggs, one at a time; beat after each addition.

    Add flour and milk alternately, ending with flour.

    Add vanilla; mix well.

    Bake in 2 (9-inch) pans, that have been greased and floured, at 350° for 30 minutes.

    Cool in pans for 10 minutes.

    Cool completely; split layers.
