- 5 cups all-purpose flour
- 3 tablespoons brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 lb lard, room temperature
- 1 egg
- 2 tablespoons vinegar
- cold water, to make a cup
Directions

1Measure flour, sugar, salt and baking powder into a large bowl.

2Cut in lard until the size of tiny peas.

3Break egg into measuring cup and beat with a fork.

4Add vinegar and pour in enough water to measure 1 cup.

5Pour a little at a time over flour mixture, tossing and stirring with fork until all liquid is absorbed. You may not always need all of it.

6Shape pastry into a ball.

7Divide into 4 flat patties.

8Wrap and refrigerate.
