- 6 slices bread, buttered
- salt and pepper to taste
- 1 1/2 c. grated sharp Cheddar, Gouda, Provolone, Monterey Jack or any other melting cheese
- 1 1/2 c. milk
- 6 eggs, beaten slightly
Directions

1Can be prepared the day before or 6 hours before baking. Arrange bread slices in a single layer in shallow buttered baking dish.

2Sprinkle with salt, pepper and grated cheese.

3Combine milk and eggs, then pour over bread and cheese.

4Cover and refrigerate at least 6 hours or overnight.

5Remove dish from refrigerator.

6Set oven at 350°.

7Place dish into cold oven.

8Bake for 1 hour or until bread custard is puffy and lightly golden.
