- 1 stick (1/2 c.) margarine
- 1/3 c. granulated sugar
- 1/3 c. packed brown sugar
- 2 Tbsp. water
- 1 c. sifted flour
- 1 1/4 tsp. baking powder
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1/2 c. chopped nuts
- 1 c. chopped candied fruit
Directions

1Melt margarine in a saucepan.

2Remove from heat.

3Add sugars and water; blend.

4Stir in flour and baking powder.

5Add egg and vanilla.

6Beat well.

7Add nuts and candied fruit.

8Stir lightly to combine.

9Pour into a 9 x 9 x 2-inch pan (rubbed with margarine). Bake in a moderate oven at 350° about 30 minutes.

10Do not overbake. Yields 18 bars (1 1/2 x 3-inches).
